Union Island has a wide variety of beaches, from lively Kite Beach to quiet bays where you can spend the afternoon on your own. Here are six to try.
Kite Beach

At Kite Beach you can meet people from all over the world, relax on a daybed and listen to music at the beach bar. Spend the afternoon watching the kitesurfers or head out for a snorkel.
Ask the kite team where to swim so you stay clear of launching and landing kites.
Campbell Beach

Campbell Beach is a quiet, sheltered beach near Ashton, with shade and a good snorkeling spot. It's a nice place for a picnic; bring cold drinks with you.
Big Sand

Big Sand is a white-sand beach on Union Island's north shore. Its sheltered turquoise water is usually calm and makes it a popular spot for a swim.
Sparrows Beach Bar and Restaurant is right on the beach, so you can have lunch and spend the afternoon by the water.
Bloody Bay

Don't be put off by the name. Bloody Bay is a long, quiet sandy beach on the north shore, reached by a roughly 15-minute walk down the hill.
It's a turtle-nesting area, and you may see tracks in the sand. The shorebreak can be strong, so take care near the water, especially with children.
Chatham Bay

On the opposite side of the island from Clifton, Chatham Bay is a sheltered bay and a favourite anchorage for sailors.
Go in the afternoon for a swim and stay for sunset. There are local beach bars and restaurants where you can stop for a drink.
Richmond

Richmond is a small, shallow lagoon beach just past Big Sand, beside the quarry. It's a local hangout and an easy place to stop for a refreshing dip after a walk around the island.
